What to expect

Thai massage is carried out on a comfortable floor mat and you stay fully clothed throughout. It is applied using hands, forearms, elbows, knees and feet in a flowing series of moves to help free the tension trapped within the body, and is usually given in silence (or with background music).  The movements involve a combination of acupressure, more familiar European massage, and yoga stretches.  No oil is used.  Treatments can last from one to two hours.

There are four main positions for the client - lying on your back, on your front, on your side, or sitting up – and the position(s) chosen will vary depending on your needs.  The treatment begins at the feet and works up through the entire body, finishing with the shoulders, neck and head.  This follows the direction of energy flow.

It is best to wear comfortable stretchy clothing such as a T-shirt and leggings or cotton jogging bottoms.  Wear long sleeves or a jumper unless the weather is hot, to make sure you stay warm lying on the floor.
